17 october 2010 - i'm back!

hello everyone and sorry for the break! it's been a whirlwind week with the arrival of my friend, christine, from holy cross. we stayed in galway for the weekend before a quick jaunt to london for the end of the week!

after a saturday on galway's shop street involving (you guessed it) doughnuts from the farmer's market, shopping and fish n chips, we woke up sunday to go to the cliffs of moher. our irish roommate, niamh was kind enough to drive us there and back so we could get a few extra hours of sleep :)

i cannot even explain how beautiful and terrifying these cliffs were. pictures don't even come close to showing how far we might have fallen. we stayed a safe distance from the edge and nervously laughed at some other people who didn't seem as concerned about the drop as we were! along with worrying about the daredevils below, we took note of many things we would not bring to the cliffs: high-heeled boots (one misstep and you are over that ledge, my friend), dogs (again... it's a long way down) and children (including infants in backpacks).

although it wasn't the most beautiful day, we enjoyed walking along the magnificent coast. we followed up the cliffs with a trip to a very unique tourist location... the aillwee caves, which despite the name, had plenty more to offer - ie cheese-tasting and a birds of prey sanctuary. i don't think you could have come up with three more random things to display together but it made for an interesting trip!

after meeting the above, i've decided i'm not a huge owl fan. this one had really scary eyes and stared at me while rotating its head in unnatural ways. ya gross.

all in all, it was a great day and we topped it off by eating homemade pasta and casually watching a documentary about james dean. i'll write about london tomorrow!

xoxo
