in honor of this special day (let's be honest, i'm procrastinating), i decided to go back and read my first post... i was most worried about missing the following:
1. home&family: although it has been hard, i successfully survived my first thanksgiving and christmas away from home and managed to maintain sanity without the ability to text or call family regularly. i also survived without cuddling with mr. mocha (or any dog for that matter) for an entire 7 months. let's hope that never happens again.
2. holy cross: being away from holy cross was so much harder than i ever imagined, especially since i'm so much closer to graduating than i ever wanted to be. i now know that i will even appreciate holing up in the library next year! i'm excited to get back to the hustle and bustle of life on the hill and of course everyone i left behind. i also know that readjustment is going to be a major struggle since academics are so much more intense back home. i honestly think we should have some sort of reintegration program...
3. friends: this one was definitely as hard as expected. i can't tell you how many times i wanted to text someone in the u.s. and couldn't or how many times i just wanted to have a face-to-face convo with someone over an iced tea at cool beans. everyone get ready for texts all day err day when i get home :)
4. food: i successfully kept myself well-fed for seven months without excessive fast food! things i learned to cook include all sorts of veggies, chicken, stir-fry, pasta sauce and chocolate chip cookies. rudimentary maybe, but definitely a step up from life pre-ireland!
so it seems i did better than i thought i would. it feels good to know that i can take care of myself... but hopefully i won't have to do so in such an extreme manner anytime soon! miss you all way too much for that. safe to say that i will be stateside for a good long time to come.
