i can't even believe that it's the 28th of september already. today marks my 4 week anniversary in galway! i'm going to take it as a good sign that i've made it this far and i can't wait for experiences that the next 8 months will bring!
since i've been taking it easy after such a rowdy weekend, i've decided to share a few things i've learned so far this week in class and elsewhere:
1. my phone number - you have no idea how pleased i am to finally be able to rattle off my irish phone number without having to dig around in my bag to find the tiny thing and then look up my own number stored as "me" in the contacts list.
2. kids in early ireland would learn to write using tablets made of wax! parchment was apparently zuper expensive so they would carve letters into wax and then just melt it and start again. pretty cool!
3. the plot outlines of othello and merchant of venice - our professor has spent 2 classes apiece on the plays. he legitimately just recaps the plot... returning to holy cross is going to be brutal.
4. early irish law dictated that a woman could divorce her husband if he were to become obese.
5. and then this happened...my modernism/postmodernism english class has focused on everything (ie paintings, poems, and music) but literature so far. we moved on to dance yesterday and watched this incredibly creepy 1920's ballet. apparently it caused riots when it was first introduced. enjoy!
