well i've officially been away from home for a week now and everything is going wonderfully :) after 4 days of perfect weather, we have crashed back to the reality of irish weather. it's been cloudy, windy and rainy for the past 2 days and there seems to be constant misting... the walk to class this morning was miserable so it's sure to be an interesting and damp year!
backtracking a bit, i experienced my first galway weekend and it was a nice break from orientation activities. friday night we had our first pub experience and i can honestly say i've never seen anything like it. we walk into this PACKED pub and the atmosphere was amazing. there was a live band playing irish music in the corner and there were people of every age drinking and having a good time together (i'm talking teenagers all the way up to 70 year olds here). i'm so excited to get to know my favorite locations this year!
saturday, we lazed around and sara and i set out in the afternoon to go to the farmer's market, which happens every saturday and sunday! there was everything from paintings to fresh veggies and it was so fun to walk around smelling and observing. we also stumbled across a doughnut seller that will, mark my word, know me by name before may. this particular doughnut stand sells the best doughnuts in the entire world. i'm not even kidding. we actually had to turn back to get another one! we then went into a little bookstore and wandered around galway!
after that excitement, we stopped by tesco (we got a club card!) and picked up stir fry ingredients. we're becoming quite the cooks!
we had another pub/club experience saturday night and lazed around sunday as well (we've been blaming the jet lag for all the sleep...) and went out to an italian dinner/irish step dancing show with our counselor here! it was an amazing weekend and i woke up sunday and today with sore abs from laughing so hard with the roommates :)
love you all!
