1 november 2010 - let the holidays begin

hello all!

happy november to everyone! had an interesting halloween last night dressed as a birthday present. pictures to come :) the most shocking (literally) aspect of an irish halloween happened to be the fact that here, fireworks are an essential part of the holiday. i guess it makes sense since they have no 4th of july... anyway, this meant that all night there were fireworks going off alarmingly close to crowds of people, myself included! it felt like some sort of war zone, complete with screaming, running and ducking! i'm happy to have survived. otherwise, it was a great time and people were so creative with costumes. we talked to some teletubbies (sans dipsy who quote: "left us for a girl!"), ghosts, pirates and a SIM! she just made a headband with a little green mood diamond on it!

in other holiday news, my favorite time of year is rapidly approaching!!! since they don't celebrate thanksgiving here, the holidays have officially begun in galway. i'm not even kidding. shop street is adorned with garlands, giant candy canes, and bells. not only that but stores have started stocking (pun intended) all sorts of glittery holiday items - tinsel, ornaments, wrapping paper, as well as all sorts of christmas candy.

on a normal year, i find it hard to wait until after thanksgiving to launch myself into full on christmas mode and usually sneak a few xmas songs during november before being chastised by friends. this year there is no thanksgiving to act as a proper christmas buffer and i'm ashamed to say i have already succumbed to an entire playlist of holiday tunes. so i sit here, in the library, jamming to whitney, faith, mariah, n*sync, smashing pumpkins, sinatra and jackson 5, with a full 53 days until my favorite day of the year (yes i have a countdown going).

how long before i start watching elf, miracle on 34th street and love actually on repeat? it's only a matter of time my friends :)

  1. I wish I was strung with christmas lights and had a 2.5 ft fake christmas tree inside of me right now.

    Sincerely,
